What is Reiki?
Reiki is a form of energy healing. The Japanese word Reiki translates to mean “universal life energy.” It comes from Rei, which means universal, boundless or clear passage; and Ki, which means vital life force energy that flows through all living beings. This energy has been recognized by many cultures and is known by many names.
Who can use Reiki?
Everyone can receive Reiki without worry. And, anyone who has a desire can be trained and Initiated with the Attunements to use Reiki. Until you are Initiated by a Reiki Master Teacher, you are not an official Reiki Practitioner or channel.
Do I need special skills to learn Reiki?
Original Usui Reiki is taught at three levels, or "Degrees". It is passed on from Master Teacher to student via a series of four “Attunements” as Initiation to the energy flow. How long does the training take? You may enjoy using Reiki immediately after Initiation. Many teachers present First and Second Degree classes together in a weekend. Some teachers provide individual training in addition to group classes.
First Degree Reiki:
you receive the Initiation Attunements and you learn the basic hand positions to do a full Reiki energy treatment on yourself or another person, plants, and animals.
Second Degree Reiki:
includes the Attunements for the Second Degree practitioner and introduction to the first 3 Reiki symbols. You learn to do distance healings. Distance healings send Reiki to people not present, and to places and times not present.
Third Degree Reiki:
is given in two parts. First, you receive the Third Degree Attunements and the 4th Reiki symbol. You may enjoy the gift of the Third Degree energy flow as a Practitioner without becoming a Teacher. It is like a quantum shift in your Reiki energy flow. If you desire to become a Reiki Master Teacher, you begin an apprenticeship to learn the teaching aspects. You learn to give Attunements. Reiki Master Teacher level is awarded upon successful completion of training and teaching apprenticeship.
